St Stephen’s College begins sale of online admission forms

NEW DELHI: Kicking off its admission process, St Stephen's College began the sale of online application forms on Monday. Over-the-counter forms, however, will be available from June 4, along with forms of other Delhi University colleges. 

The college has fixed the online registration fee at Rs 50 per course so that more students opt for the online facility. The printed forms are priced at Rs 250 each. 

Dr Karen Gabriel, media adviser, St Stephen's, said "The college is committed to conserve the environment. In order to minimize the use of paper, we are encouraging students to apply online. That's why the fee has been kept so low." In 2011, the college had received over 21,000 applications - 4,800 online applications, 550 downloaded applications and more than 16,000 forms submitted over the counter. 

As many as 420 seats are up for grabs at St Stephen's. Sticking to its 2011-12 admission policy, the college will not consider Class X scores. The merit differential between reserved and general categories still stands at a maximum of 15%. Final admissions will be based on an interview - holding a 15% weightage -  and Class XII marks which have a weightage of 85%. 

Meanwhile, cutoffs for different courses will be declared in the third week of June. Last year, cutoffs shot up by 0.50% to 5% for nine of the 11 undergraduate courses. There was a significant jump in cutoffs for humanities students aspiring for mathematics (H). History (H) too had witnessed an increase of 3.5% in the cutoff followed by BA programme . 

Last year, economics (H) and English (H) were still the most sought-after courses with a cutoff range from 96.5% to 97.5% and 94.4% to 97% respectively. Cutoffs were increased for four science courses. 

Log on and apply to junior colleges

MUMBAI: Two days after the ICSE results were announced, the online website for junior college admission has been made functional. Students from various boards, who are interested in applying to junior colleges, can start filling Part One of the two-part form. 

"We dropped the idea of filling dummy forms and instead started the process early so that students don't end up wasting time once the state board results are out. Students can start filling the second part of the form immediately the day after the SSC results are announced," said a senior official from the office ofdeputy director of education (school). This year, a special committee was formed to solve the glitches faced by the website over the past two years. One of the proposals was to not wait till the board releases hard copies of the results, and instead start accepting forms based on the online result itself. 

"This will save considerable time and admissions can start earlier than usual. Also, since the admissions to the bifocal streams and subjects will be done offline only after the three general lists are announced, colleges can start lectures on time," the official said. The first part asks students to fill in basic details like name, addresss, board of education, etc. In the second part, students have to fill their marks and the choice of over 35 colleges from Mumbai Metropolitan Region. 

The website was officially open for students in April second week and one could take a visual tour of the entire admission process. Students can log on to fyjc.org.in/mumbai for a visual tour of the admission process as well as to fill-up Part One of their admission form. 

Magadh varsity colleges ready for admissions

PATNA: Colleges under Magadh University (MU) are bracing for admitting students to Intermediate (Plus two) course this year. Though the result of matriculation examination conducted by Bihar School Examination Board is likely to be published by May 28, these colleges having intermediate section too, have worked out details regarding sale and submission of forms. With Intermediate teaching completely de-linked from Patna University, colleges under MU are likely to face a huge rush of admission seekers.

A N College, Patna, is fully geared up for admitting students to Intermediate in science and arts streams. Merit will be the sole criterion for admitting students to the courses. The college will start selling admission forms from June 4 and accept them till June 30, said college principal Haridwar Singh.

According to Singh, the college would start admission process from the first week of July. There are 860 seats in arts and 1,152 seats in science streams. The cut-off marks was 75% in science and 60% in arts stream last year. Besides, the college has invited applications for admission to Degree-level vocational courses till June 12, he said.

Arvind Mahila College, Patna, will start selling admission forms for the Intermediate course from June 4 and students can submit forms till June 30. The cut-off marks was 60% in science and 50% each in arts and commerce streams last year, said college principal Asha Singh, adding the college will also invite applications for admission to PG course in MCom this year.

J D Women's College, Patna, has also started preparing for admission to Intermediate course. Forms would be available at the college counter from the first week of June and students can submit their forms till June 30, said college principal Usha Singh.

Similarly, other MU colleges, including B D College, T P S College, College of Commerce and B S College, Danapur, all at Patna, are fully prepared to start admission procedure to Intermediate and Degree part 1 courses after publication of matriculation and Intermediate results by the end of this month, sources said.

B D College would start sale of admission forms for the Intermediate course from the first week of June. The last date for submission of forms would be June 30. The college, which offers science, arts and commerce streams, would select students for admission on merit. The cut-off marks in science was 70% last year, while it was 60% in both arts and commerce streams, said college principal B N Ojha, adding the college has a separate section for girls in commerce at the Intermediate level .

B S College, Danapur, would start sale of forms from the first week of June 4 for Intermediate course. The college would accept admission forms till June 30 and shortlist the first admission list by the second week of July. Though merit would be the sole criterion for admission, the college would give preference to poor and meritorious students, including girls, in admission to Intermediate course, said college principal Pravin Kumar.
